The Word of God

All men/women have this thing inside of them that pulls them away from God. It's an inherited condition that we have due to the sin that Adam committed in the garden. Since that time, man/woman has had a problem wrapping his head around the fact that there is a God who wants to have relationship with him/her. It's been far easier for people to believe that there is no God, create false gods, chase the god of pleasure or pain.

The God of the Bible has always reached out to those who seek Him in an attempt to show His love. God gave His laws and a series of sacrifices to show man the "high level overview" of what it means to be in relationship with God. Jesus summed all 10 commandments into 2 major premises: there is only one God, love Him, and as I have shown my love to you, love others.

God didn't stop there. Understanding that man/woman could not by his own strength serve a holy God, He sent His son to be a perfect sacrifice for us so we could have relationship with God. He did not stop there, He also placed a portion of Himself in each of us called His Holy Spirit, who teaches us all things and brings all things to our memory.

The death of Jesus and the salvation that it brings is free to all who believe that God loved the world and gave His only son. If we believe this - we shall have eternal life.

That, is the Gospel in the nutshell. It doesn't take anything more than that to obtain the free gift of salvation.

So... why do I write about struggling to be a Christian? Because we are spirit and we are also a body. Years before we understood what salvation was, we were entrenched in sin. We also live in a world that is filled with sin AND we are in the middle of a spiritual battle.

We have to fight against living our life on autopilot, because our bodies... our sin nature will naturally take us away from the work that was done on the cross. It is a battle to shut down the world around us and spend time reading the Word of God. It is a battle to take time out of our busy day and to pray... not just for what we want or the people that we love... but to intercede for people that God has placed on our hearts. Not just a sentence prayer, but truly intercede! We have to fight against our own anxiety when it comes to sharing the good news that Jesus came and died for our sins.

Christianity is not just a set of check boxes that we check to say we've completed our spiritual obligation. It is life. Every aspect of our day should be accomplished with the thought in mind that God is resident in me. I have fellowship with the most high God... not because of anything I've done... but because He loves me!

And... this is a love that I have to fight hard to not take for granted on a daily basis.
