I was always more interested in coloring the fruit and vegetables than the actual basket itself. I wanted the right red for the apple, and dark purple for grapes (because I liked purple ones better than green...), pears, corn, bananas... Were there banana's at the first Thanksgiving? I don't think so... The thing is, you can really put what ever you want to in a cornucopia. Primarily because it's not practical for carrying things and it's just for decorative purposes.
Now... the fruit of the spirit? Those are non-negotiable. As a Christian, we are suppose to be displaying fruit. The interesting thing is that it doesn't say "fruits" implying that you might not have one or some of them. Fruit implies that we should be produce one... that manifests itself in many different ways. Kind of like an apple that can be fried in cinnamon, eaten raw, baked in a pie, made into juice... it's the same fruit... just used different ways.
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23 New Living TranslationIf we aren't producing all of this fruit, then maybe we need to do some pruning in our lives... let's inspect our lives and see if we're missing any of these. God will get the glory if we are! If not, He is faithful to help us get there.
